Photography is not just a hobby for me or a means of earning a living. It’s a way of preserving memories and sharing experiences, an art form that should be celebrated.
I have had a passion for photography for as long as I can remember. Since a child I was delighted in how a moment can be captured through the lens of a camera, and how time stands still within the frame of a photograph.
As a student, I developed my skills as a photographer by successfully completing photography courses at Degree level. I have also gained experience of media and advertising by completing a Post Graduate Diploma, which has helped put my skills into context and provided me with essential business and presentation skills.
Shortly after completing my Diploma, I was given the opportunity of becoming a cruise ship photographer on P&O’s vessel, Arcadia, which I welcomed with open arms. The experience was fantastic in so many ways. Not only did I see the world, but I developed my photographic skills and portfolio immensely. Some of the pictures you can see in my gallery on this site are products of my time at sea.
Whilst working on Arcadia, in partnership with another member of the team, I developed and launched a successful wedding photography service, and wedding photography has since become one of my specialities.
I am now an affiliated Licentiate member of the Masters Photographic Association (MPA) and am steadily building up my own photography business, Southworth Photography. This is a challenging, yet exciting time in my professional life, and I am enjoying every minute.
Every project I embark on, whether large or small, I approach with professionalism and a will to deliver quality and value to my clients. However, I believe that exceptional photographs can only be taken in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, and so make every effort to make sessions as enjoyable as possible and put clients at ease.
As you can see from my portfolio, I have had experience of working with a wide variety of people from all walks of life. As a friendly and approachable, female photographer, I find I work especially well with children. However, I pride myself on my versatility and I am yet to find a subject that has failed to inspire and excite.
